International Veterans
Team name:
First line Barrelhouse, Managed by Ed Declercq, head of special non
comm ops, sat-nav and border bar incursions.
Section entered:
International Veterans competition
Where from:
Sharjah-ish
Brief team history:
For Chapter and verse see
www.barrelhouse-rugby.com We are a team of like minded fellows
whom enjoy Rugby, socially and physically, we are predominately a
drinking club with a Rugby problem. There are many myths and
whispered stories involving the Barrelhouse, from being the
inspiration behind a recent high street classic novel involving
secret societies, which we can neither confirm or Deny about Mr
Brown’s membership. However check out our motto’s “ Dandum
cursoribus non existimandum- for the forwards, Currendum non
Calcandum- for our backs and generally to all our supporters- Quis
tu ipse sis memento “and see where it leads you, maybe it’s to an
ancient artefact of maybe its not….
Previous Dubai Sevens experience:
A regular entrant in the international competition, 2007 proved to
be one our best in recent years, whereby two tries were scored and
only '5 score and 6' conceded. Though Rugby was the true winner so
was the person whom owned the bar takings. A watershed was acheived,
by us having the last remaining cast member of the hobbit film score
one try, this ensured there wasn’t a dry eye in the Barrelhouse
supporters throng. A rambunctious group of
gents, as likely to be found supping a port and lemon and a fine
Havana cigar, as standing out in a crowd adorned in pink rugby
shirts, though each being a timeless classic collectors item in its
own right.
Outstanding players:
To numerous to say but each has his own profile on our web
page-needless to say some have to go incognito in public.
Hopes for the tournament:
To be walking to the bar without crutches.
Any interesting facts and figures
about the team: many of our
team have played in consecutive 7’s since the 80’s having won every
trophy (ironically) except the international Vets one.
Any interesting information on the
team’s preparations for the tournament:
We respect training so much we try
not to do any so as not to tire it out.
Young Old Boys
Team name:
WAFI Young Old Boys (YOB's), Managed by Andy Jackson co sponsored by
CH2M Hill.
Section entered:
Local Socials
Where from:
Sharjah-ish
Brief team history:
For Chapter and verse see
www.barrelhouse-rugby.com.The Young Old Boys concept came around
out of a desire to encourage lads that had grown up their whole
scholastic life in the GCC, playing Rugby here and forming ties, to
return from college for the wonderful event that is the Dubai 7's
(many having played as school boys in the early days of the
event). The team is a unique outfit of like minded old school mates
and keen family members whom commit to Gulf rugby and are proud of
being part of Gulf Rugby as it has grown.
Previous Dubai Sevens experience:
Whilst regular entrants in the 7's, until recently this team was
always put into the international socials competition, which
resulted in some hard games and even harder knocks.
Outstanding players:
Each payer whom pulls on a barrelhouse YOBs shirt is showing a
commitment to their club that any Gulf club would be proud to have.
Hopes for the tournament:
To give a good showing for our efforts and reward our Sponsors who
have shown support to the team for many years with a little
silverware.
Any interesting facts and figures
about the team: Most players
started in the Dubai 7's as school boys for the various colleges in
the GCC.
Any interesting information on the
team's preparations for the tournament:
the team has trained hard and is looking forward to playing in the
social competition against similar standard teams
AGRFU Team
Team name:
Reaction Barrelhouse, co sponsored by CH2M Hill
Section entered:
AGRFU men's competition
Where from:
UAE-ish
Brief team history:
For Chapter and verse see
www.barrelhouse-rugby.com Barrelhouse
has a successful record in this group competition, having won the
main trophy/ Khanjar and even the plate over the last decade. A team
is ecliptic in its structure and dynamic in its play. A truly world
team comprising of individuals from all those corners of the globe.
The first and certainly the most prolific of Pink based teams in the
Dubai 7's we are a body of players whom play hard and too win. This
year we welcome both players returning from previous seasons and a
few new faces.
Previous Dubai Sevens experience: A
regular entrant in the competition losing in the 2007 plate semi,
but being trophy and khanjar winners so often we had motioned the
AGRFU to rename the competition after us…
A set of fit lean and dedicated guys, with one aim, to enjoy the 7's
for the complete unique experience that it is, enjoyment in playing
watching and being part of the scene is what counts.
Outstanding players:
Each player has put in 110% so to name one or two would be not
represent our ethos, all for one and one for all.
Hopes for the tournament:
To enjoy.
Any interesting facts and figures
about the team: Our shirts are
the hottest tops in the competition and keeping hold of them from
memento grabbers is not easy.
Any interesting information on the
team's preparations:
yes but these are our
secret!!!
