Chairman's Message January 2008

It gives me great pleasure to address the general population of Barrelhouse from the esteemed position of chairman and to take this opportunity in thanking all those that supported my nomination.

I should also like to utilize my opening punt to thank Andy Jackson (now known as Ex xxx X chair), whom has been the corner stone of barrelhouse since the average height of man was 4’ 4” for all his hard work effort and persistence in support of the cause, Andy has kindly offered to continue his support (though he doesn’t know it) through the provision of IT assistance and his attendance at all our drinking events (more about that later in the year)

2008 will be an interesting year for Rugby in the Middle East, with that Middle eastern bastion of the game, Dubai exiles, being demolished, for another “original” housing development that will stand out as being just the same as all the others currently under construction, whilst effectively destroying a unique and wonderful opportunity to absorb with minimal cost a centre of sport for is community, such is life.

It is hoped that Barrelhouse will emerge out of 2008 as a organization that also will have changed, with the energy of Andrew Stanley (Vice Chairman) and Mathew Silvester (Honorable secretary) helping us develop and garner interest and sponsorship, to achieve an emirate league team as well as holding down possibly 4 (four) teams in the 2008 Emirates 7’s competition; AGRFU men team, a social team, a local vets and international vets team, Andrew Stanley has already offered his assistance in organizing the local vets team, so those interested in the other 3 (three) just need to drop me a line.

It is anticipated that several international vets/10’s competitions will be attended in 2008 and notice of these will be posted soon.

Finally, should any members have old team photos, match reports or funny anecdotes that could be added to this site, please send them to me through info@barrelhouse-rugby.com for inclusion on this site.
