About Us |
From that rugby "hothouse" - The Arabian Gulf, comes Barrelhouse. The club consists of primarily players who have lived and worked in all the GCC countries i.e. The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman. All these countries flags are represented on the club's logo.
It was formed by a number of old (in both senses of the word) players from Dubai Exiles Rugby Club who, due to family commitments and age (or both), could not keep up the hectic travelling and weekends away that characterises rugby in the Gulf.
From a club to give the old guys an occasional run out it has evolved into a vehicle for players from all over the Arabian Gulf to participate in rugby.
As well as the Vets side we also run a Young Whippersnapper's team. Sensibly, the older guys are leaving it to the young, fit guys to play in the tournaments while they concentrate on the important business of getting a year's worth of beer down their necks.
The team has been very successful over a number of years playing in the 7's format and Barrelhouse can now host a 1st and 2nd 7's Team in the Dubai 7's, outside of this the club also has a popular 15's side which takes on other local Emirates and Gulf based rugby clubs, UK and US Navy social games and touring social sides.
